Putting on a Magic Show

Last Dance for High School - Disneyland, California, June 2011

By Brandon Lott - 2011 Graduate, Bonneville High School, Idaho Falls, Idaho

We had worked hard all year long, and in February of 2011, my team won four national titles at the USA Dance Show Championships. I didn't think this could be topped--until I learned that we would be performing at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

As we walked through the gates of Disneyland Park, we read the sign "Here You Leave Today and Enter the World of Yesterday, Tomorrow and Fantasy"--what a perfect saying to start off our magical two days! We met with an awesome Cast Member who took us backstage, and it was fun to see the excitement in everyone's eyes, along with some nerves. The Cast Member shared stories about other performers and told us how historic the Carnation Plaza Gardens Stage was. To think we would be performing on the same stage as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington!

Hearing the announcement that welcomed our team and then walking onto the stage was so exciting. The nerves went away as the music started. More and more people came to sit and watch our group, and some even stayed to tell us how much they enjoyed our show. Other Cast Members stopped and commented on how fun it was to watch our team dance. We felt like stars!

Being able to share our love for dance with people from all over was my favorite part of the trip. Spending time in the Disney Parks with my ballroom family was so much fun, an experience I won't ever forget. I can't think of a better way to end high school.
